The Earl’s Cup between Greytown and St Cathryns was held for the 5th time this weekend.
Day 1 was played at Greytown in hot conditions which obviously suited the St Cathryns players who won the Betterball matches 4-2. The afternoon got hotter which caused the Greytown players to wilt. St Cathryn’s took the foursomes 4-2 leaving the day one score 8-4 in St Cathryns favor.
Day 2 dawned with drizzle which did little to dampen the St Cathryns fire. The first 4 St Cathryns players out all but secured the victory by all posting good wins. Greytown tried to fight back with a good win in the next game but that fight soon fizzled out. St Cathryns came home strong and finally won the singles 9-3.
The final score was 17-7 in St Cathryn’s favor.
That leaves both Greytown and St Cathryns with two wins each and one draw over the past five years.
A big thank you goes to all the players from both sides who played all the matches in a great spirit. Lots of fun and laughter was had even though the weekend was competitive. Thank you to St Cathryns and Greytown for hosting the weekend, it is certainly the highlight of the golfing calendar.
