The Farmers Agri-care monthly mug played on Saturday 11 November 2023, where the talk of the pub’s topic: the state of the greens.

Unlike other clubs, that close their course for hollow-tining until the greens recover, St Cathryn’s opted to continue and to allow players to play.

Accompanied with the spring treatment, the current cold / hot /wet / misty conditions brought on some diseases. It needed three spraying treatments, the last one just before tee -off and fertilizing of the greens as the prescribed treatment.

However the golf continued and the youngsters, four golfers from the Penrose academy were in the field with their coaches and fathers and weren’t frightened off. The shot of the day must go to Liam Gifford who chipped into the 18th hole cup from about 60m out – handing him the only two club and all the money.

On Sunday 5 November 2023, two of our juniors, played in the KZN Junior masters tournament at Royal Durban golf course.

In the A division : Josh Giffors ended in 5th position and Matt du Preez ended 3rd in the B division. St Cathryn’s is extremely proud of these achievements as both golfers played the course “ blind” (first time out on Royal Durban) and also at sea level, makes for higher club selection because of the air pressure.

On the 16 December 2023 we will play the first Farmers Agri- care monthly mug, for the new membership year, with the report back meeting and dinner later. Please can all members and their families RSVP for the dinner for catering purposes. On Sunday 17 December 2023 all the past year’s monthly mug winners report to the first tee, where they play for the St Cathryn’s Farmers Agri-care : Jug of Mugs.

Marius Muller has won the 2022/2023 Grand Priks and his 5th position on Saturday 11 November 2023 secured him the win. Captain Fanie van Wyk, who was also in the running, went to Sun City to watch the Nedbank Million dollar and sent pictures and an update every now and then.

On Monday at the time of going to press, a recovery in the greens is clearly visible and within the next seven days the greens will be back to their former glory.
