The Mascor St Cathryn’s Club Championships played over two days, 2 and 3 April 2022, drew golfers in all the divisions. Contested categories were A,B and C divisions, Ladies, juniors and seniors. The St Cathryn’s homeowners and Tee2Pin members were also catered for. The championship dates are set by KZNGU. Some interesting facts about the players. Four sets of proud fathers played with their sons, there were husbands and wives, all part of the twenty two players in the field. Some of the members travelled from as far as Transkei and Gauteng.

The Farmers Agri-care monthly mug is played during the same weekend and a new youngster is slowly making a name for himself and is part of the Penrose golf academy from Hermannsburg school.

Matthew du Preez playing alongside fellow golfers twice his age, showing respect where respect is due, playing to the rules of golf, and contributing to the good spirit in the club. The two juniors in the club are the future of the club and members are always ready to treat these youngster with good golf camaraderie.

MASCOR St Cathryn’s club champion 2022: Gareth Larken who recently took up membership at St Cathryn’s, no stranger to the club who has many rounds at the club. Playing rounds of 79 and flat round on Sunday 72 to secure the championship. Thank you to MASCOR for their sponsorship and support, the members appreciated that Tubby Larkan came to represent Mascor and hand out the prizes. Tubby and Gareth made the fifth Father and son combination at the club. St Cathryns wishes Gareth well in his new position at Hermannsburg School, this bodes well for golf in our area.

The top eight players will now play in the Midlands Spraychem matchplay finals on the 30th of April.
