The “Harrison fun farewell” golf competition was played over the weekend and members and friends came from Jhb, Pietermaritzburg, Hillcrest, Greytown and Kranskop – to say goodbye to the Harrison family. Mike Harrison, a member for the past twenty two years, and Sue a member for the past three years have decided to immigrate to the USA, to join their son Mark, currently living in Boston, USA.

It was an evening where Sue cooked their last South African oxtail potjie, that was enjoyed by all. The generous prizes presented by the Harrison family were much appreciated by all.

Mike represented the “frog” team at interclub, was the winner of three “Mug of mugs”, as well as numerous “Farmers Agri-care” Monthly mugs. Mike shared his fun moments at St Cathryn’s over the past number of years, and they thanked the members for their Friendship over the past many years.

As a farewell present from the Harrison family – they donated new alluminium cups for the greens. St Cathryn’s members are all proud of Justin Harrison (other son) – currently head greenkeeper at Country club Johannesburg. Justin as a schoolboy spent many school holidays working on the course and then decided that greenkeeping was the career he wanted to follow.

We look forward to following Justin’s career and wish him all the best for his future too.

The misty weather that crept over the course, made for a break in the play and allowed all golfers to watch the Springboks vs All Black game and all were elated when the boks crept home to win by one point. Golfers set out after the mist lifted again after 14:00 and were in a more jovial mood.
