The Farmers Agri-care mug played over the weekend drew nineteen players, with some of the A division players excusing themselves from taking part.

Father and son, Dieter and Josh were playing down at Umdoni in the next round of the Windhoek pairs, Gareth Larkan on a family get away , headmaster Matt Reed spending time away with the family, Andre Liddemore on stable duty – so there was less pressure on the players left to play in the Mug.

Nicole Nieuwoudt was home on a summer break from Doha in Qatar where Nicole teaches.

Our school boys in the field and their coach walked away with most of the prizes. An update for members – the first three places all receive a meat prize.

The competition was played in great spirit and the greens were slick and had one or two players overshooting the hole by a few centimetres….to a meter!

The next tournament is one of our flagship competitions, namely the Hermannsburg school golf day, now in its 30th year with the past 18 or so tournaments played at St Cathryn’s, to be held on the weekend of the 15th to 17th September 2023.

On the Friday the Penrose academy will be playing their championship, the main golfing event is played on the Saturday, Betterball : two fields shotgun start 6:30 and 12:30, and on the Sunday a fun 9 hole breakfast run with golfers and beginner golfers.

Our next Farmers Agri-care monthly mug will be played on September the 23rd. There are normally lots of fun prizes up for grabs and the monthly mug is open to all registered golfers with an official National Handicap.

Currently St Cathryn’s has received their new rating, with some minor changes that had to be made. Most of the “grass bunkers”

had to be removed and the internal “Out Of Bounds” on holes five and fourteen has also been removed. Most of these changes were suggested by GOLF RSA and these changes were brought in place to help the flow of the game.
