The long  awaited “nearest to pin 9/18th” sponsored wine arrived, with the courier, at the security gate last week. In attendance were some of the committee members and the excitement showed on their faces. Due to the Lockdown rules and liquor sales not allowed, Dr Rikus Kloppers, the sponsor of the wine made a booking through Take a lot, after liquor sales rules were relaxed.  Thirteen bottles of wine were carefully unpacked, Boschendal Rosegarden Rose, Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc, Byerskloof Pinotage and a Diemersdal Sauvignon Blanc.

The wine is for all the monthly mug competitions and is won by the golfer nearest to pin 9/18th and the 13th bottle is for the nearest to pin on the Mug of Mugs day in December. After inspection for defaults and with wine there is no expiry date, the bakers dozen was put into safe keeping. The committee was just short of doing a taste to test the quality…

The biggest field for a Monthly Mug was recorded on Saturday 20 February 2021, when 36 players played in the Farmers Agri-care Monthly Mug. Golfers from Gauteng, Ballito, Cato Ridge, Amanzimtoti, Hermannsburg and Greytown played with members from Hillcrest , Richards Bay and  Pietermaritzburg. Due to the shortage of carts, a rental agreement was made with someone on the North Coast and four extra carts were hired in for the weekend.

Very interesting statistics that came up from all the golfers, with many playing the course for the first time, is that the 3rd hole, par 4 with a distance of 220m, was the easiest of all the holes. Four birdies and one eagle were recorded on that hole. The 449m, par 5, 14th hole is the most difficult.

The average Handicap of  all the golfers was 17 and the average nett score recorded was 82.

The Grand “Priks” standing so far, Mike Harrison 35 points, with Merwin Rabe, Marius and Tienie Muller in hot pursuit – all three with 20 points.
